Hello, my name is Malik and this blog is about the social, ethical and legal aspects of IT. I’m a level 2 student at Halesowen College. I hope you enjoy reading my blog.

Local communities
Social media-connects people together able to communicate much easily (Framers, disabled people, LGBT, elderly).
You can be able to see when the wheelie bin collections are coming as they might of changed their times when they come and if you follow the group that does the bin collection you can stay up to date and see when they are coming also if you have multiple bins with different colours you can see which one is going out on which day
Makes people aware of what’s going on and local events and how to be able to access the event that is happening.
Economic effects
Anyone can set up a business as it is very easy to do it online you can do this in the middle of nowhere. Don’t need to have a lot of money to do advertising (social media), affiliate links so two sites can interlink and have a better business.
It is cheaper to buy stuff online then in store cause in the shops the owner has to pay rent or mortgage and then they have to buy the heating/air-conditioning and they need lighting, might have to pay tax, need to insure the building, Water bills, staff which is the most expensive, however online you won’t need as much as there is less rent because you don’t really need a place to store all of the products, less staff.
Sustainability
Recycle – you can recycle old parts of your computer(s) instead of throwing it away and let it go to waste
Reduce – if you recycle some parts of the computers you can reduce the amount of waste the will happen when you get rid of your computer
Reuse – we can melt the plastics from other computers and reuse it in new models and this will mean we use less plastic and we reduce the amount of plastic waste
Legal aspects of IT
Copyright declares ownership
Copyright is when you assign ownership to a piece of work once it is fixed on something real.
Copyright strikes last the whole time the persons alive and 50-70 years after they have passed away. Copyright strikes are applied to your work instantaneously and you don’t have to apply for one. Fair use is a copyright provision that permits the user to use the authors work (Video,Song) for 10-15 seconds. This provision is also used in school work so if a student needs to use a short bit of a song they can without getting copyright strike.
If you do use Fair use here are some ways to avoid copyright
only use a small amount of it so if its a song don’t use the whole song
Rework it and use the material in a different way (Change most of it)
Has to be non profitable
Give credit to the person who created it
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is when you break the copyright, it is an act of fraud/theft
Taking someone else work or ideas as your own without their consent, using it in your work without credit
Stealing and publishing someone’s work is a plagiarism
Pretending it is a new idea
You can get fined up to £100-£50,000
If it happens in college you can get expelled from it. Your work destroyed and legal actions could happen
Return all benefits you have gained from the work
In the worst can scenario you could got to prison

Privacy of information
Everyone has a right to have their data kept private
People who keep this data must keep it protected by law (Data controllers have your data)
Data protection Act – GDPR (general data protection regulation), if they break the laws they will be fined and it can be up to £500,000.
Computer misused act- unauthorised access, unauthorised access with intent (intention of doing something), unauthorised access and modification, creating any hardware or software allowing to gain unauthorised access to someone’s computer.

Things you can do and things you can’t
Sometimes it’s a good thing and sometimes it’s a bad thing
Good – students can’t change their grades as if students had access to grades they would put top marks. This protects you as if you had a fall out with a mate then they could get rid of all your grades
Bad – if a student had access to one thing put all the others don’t as it won’t be fair as the student could look at all the assignments, Power Points but the others couldn’t
Bad – if a group of people have access ti one thing but one person doesn’t
Why is the blog good at conveying information to a wide audience
Who can access my blog
Anyone is able to access my blog as long as they have a link to the website and a stable internet connection once they have all of this they can access all my posts in my blog.
What type of information can be included
The type of information that can be included in my blog is videos, animation link to sites and a the written things about social, ethical and the legal aspects of IT.
Editing and publishing the blog
I can edit the blog at any time if i have the access to the internet. The reason why i can edit my blog as if i write a blog and someone types something inappropriate in the comments i can delete the comment they have made.
Also when i’m editing the blog if i don’t like the edit i can not publish the blog so the site can stay the same without me changing anything.
Is there anything that the blog does not do well
Is it difficult to make a blog entry?
In my opinion it is very easy to make a blog as all you have to do is set the lay out of the blog, create a title and write a heading on what the blog is about and once you are ready to write your blog you just need to start a new paragraph and start typing.
How easy was it to update an existing blog
It was very easy to update your blog as all you have to do is make the change then press the update button which is in the top right of the website.
Safety and security
Password/log in details
When i started up my blog i had to make a password with log in details which only took about 1 minute all you had to was have a password with a certain length and a number or a symbol the reason why you do this is so your account is more secure.
Emails to register your account
Once i created my account i had to put my college email to verify that it a real account so once i went to my emails there was a confirmation link that i had to press and put my log in details in there.
CAPTCHA
CAPTCHA is a test to tell computers and humans apart. It determines whether it is a real human account or a spam account. CAPTCHA makes a randomly generated number and letter sequence that only the computer that it was created on can read and the users of the computers can read.
What makes emails safe to use?
Securing of personal data
To access emails you will need an email account to access them for this you will need a username and password to access the account so you can read and send emails. When you send email they are encrypted to stop hackers intercepting you emails and reading them as private stuff could be on the email. The way encryption works with emails is public and private keys they make sure only you and the reader can see them . when the email is sent the private and public key verify that the email is meant for the reader and not for anyone else.
Data protection
When you give your data to someone else they have to protect it by law.
There is two data protection laws and they are the Data protection act and the General Data Protection Regulation. You need to follow these laws because if you don’t you could get fine up to £500,000.
Firewalls
A fire wall is a network security systems that monitors incoming and outcoming network traffic and this makes sure no unauthorised access can access your network.
In firewalls there are many ports, for example email and Internets ports. You need to close any unused ports to stop port scanning by hackers as they use this to access you confidential information so when you close the port there is no way they can get into your system.
Improving accessibility in a blog
Choice of colours
You would have to have a maximum of 3 colours as anymore would be to much of a blog.
The colours that you use should be appropriate for the theme your talking about e.g. if your talking about a dark event or subject you are not going to pick a bright cheerful colour you will most likely pick a darker colour but if you’re talking about a good event you will pick bright colours.
Colours chosen will put the reader in a state of mind because they can change your mood for example if you chose like a grey colour their mood might be dull but if you chose a colour like bright green that is an upbeat colour.
Choice of text size
This can be important as if you choose a small text size people who are visually impaired will not be able to view your blog but if your blog text size is bigger than normal those people will be able to see your blog as they will be able to read it
Contrast of text a background
Contrast is achieved by using colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel. For example a dark coloured text and a light colour back ground would work well with each other but a light coloured text and a light coloured background would not work well with each other as you would not be able to see the text. the best colours to use would be yellow and black, yellow as the text colour and black as the background the reason why is that it is easier to read then any other colour.
Choice of text font
You need to choose the right font for the audience. If your audience is children then you would pick a font light comic sans as the children would be able to recognise the letters and be able to see the words but you wouldn’t use a font like brush script as the letters are joined up and the children would not be able to read it. If you was producing a blog for teenagers/adults you would use a sensible font like Ariel as i looks neat and is easy to read.
Inclusion of images
It is important to include images in your blogs as it will bring you life as people can be intrigued by the images and will continue to read your blog. Also some people find it easier to look at images instead of reading text and this can lead to them learning more from images and defiantly if the images are animated.
Tooltips for text readers
Tool-tips are a text that appears when you hover over a part of the screen with your mouse and it explains what certain things are. Some tool-tips can read out loud what it is displaying and this is important as it can help visually impaired people because they will be able to understand what is being said as they can hear. some tool-tips on websites are automatic but others are need to be activated manually so.
